Let your friends find you the perfect match, all for a good cause.
40% of Australian couples meet through a friend or family member. Maydate is a dating platform that allows your friends to set you up on dates with people they believe make a good match.
Along with this unique premise, Maydate's other driver was that for each date proposed, money would be donated to a designated charity. Similar to other calendar causes, the focus of activity would take place in the month of May. Fluency created an identity and designed the online MVP for the concept and platform to be tested and pitched to potential suiters. This MVP was successful and late in 2013 Maydate was acquired by Macmillan Cancer Support, UK's largest charity supporting cancer. Maydate was subsequently renamed to My Mate your Date in the view of becoming McMillians's exclusive dating for a good cause charity platform.
The homepage asks a simple question: Are you single? Or if not, do you know any single friends you could set up?
A casual and friendly direction was developed for the MayDate logo and visuals.
Singles are able to review their proposed dates suggested by friends. Each date proposed raised money to a charity of choice.
All registration and campaign forms were made as lean as possible to make the experience fun and frictionless. There were no profiles, as your friends already know you. Facebook integration allowed the user, whether a Single or Friend doing the setting up, to use their Facebook network to select and notify others. Smart tools such as Maydate "recommends" utilises Facebook's APIs to suggest a potential date based on location, relationship status, gender, and likes.
Singles would start by choosing from their circle of friends who they think could set them up on good date.
A custom Facebook recommending engine was built. The Friend also had the option of hand picking someone from their Facebook friends.
Maydate was successful in being acquired McMillian Cancer Support, one of the largest British charities and providers of specialist health care and financial support to people affected by cancer.
