Aimed at the die-hard Australian fan base of Eurovision. The type of people that hold dress up parties and play drinking games during the telecast.

The objective was to create a greater link between the TV program, the parties and the website.

The solution used language like “LOL”, “MEH” and “HOT” to judge acts prior to the telecast and then used both mobile and web as channels for viewers to rate and vote on their favourite country performances similar to how the official voting works. This was to determine Australia’s Unofficial Winner. The visual design was responsive and contained colourful modules to imitate the feeling of a buzzing party atmosphere. The integrated experience was as success with over 14k new Facebook fans, and a 400% increase in unique visitors over the three days of the telecast.

Deliverables

UX, Design, Frontend Development

Creating a Eurovision party experience

Like the televised event the site was full of colour, energy, character and a bit of kitsch representing the 20 European nations.

A responsive solution

Combining bright bold design elements, artist and country profiles along with video content, all in a fully responsive layout offered a truly engaging experience.

The dual screen experience

A major intiative was undertaken, to provide the Eurovision fan with a pre, live and post state of the website on all devices. This enabled the viewer during the SBS telecast to use their device to rate, vote amd chat on each performance as it appeared on their TV set. The response and engagement was overwhelming, with SBS eurovision trending globally on social media.

Viewer's choice

SBS viewers were able to participate in their very own Eurovision vote, final SBS votes were updated live, providing a passionate source of debate amongst users.
