Cycling is more than a pastime or mode of transport, it really is a way of life. Clarence Street Cyclery shares that passion, providing a hub for Sydney's cycling community.

The Sydney store is Australia’s biggest and oldest bike store. When Clarence St wanted to step into e-commerce, they wanted to make a statement.

The design incorporated an edgy urban feel combining subtle street textures with stunning imagery. The new branding featured bold typography and a refined colour palette. A major part of the brief was to resolve the information-architecture and user-experience to deliver a seamless and user-friendly online shopping experience for a store that sells thousands of bike products and accessories.

Capturing the essence of Clarence Street

CSC's bold new lime branding was incorporated into pavement textures and in-store murals that were used to create the visual direction.

The shop space features the charming characteristics of this rare late Victorian warehouse (circa 1880’s).

The challenge

To support a rebranding of Clarence St Cyclery (CSC) and create a stunning and exceptional online experience. The site had to respect the rich history of the company as well as provide a vital platform for the future through discovering, sharing and eCommerce.

Planning and UX

High fidility wireframes were produced to resolve a complex online store which stocks over 200 bikes, many brands and thousands of parts and accessories.

It's all in the detail

Large format images were used to make bikes the hero of the page. Colour coded price points and custom iconography was created.

Its more than a store, it's a family

Clarence Street Cyclery was founded in 1975 by Tony and Christine Cook and is still owned and operated by the Cook family. The quality of service and staff expertise is second to none.

CSC Iconography

A suite of icons was designed and used to clearly identify which section of the site you were browsing.

A custom online shopping experience

A custom faceted search was designed to help the user browse, narrow and ultimately find the right product reflecting the high attention to service.
